BICSI Technician

A Building Industry Consulting Service International, or BICSI, Technician takes charge of advanced testing and troubleshooting of both copper and optical fiber installations. The technician must examine and evaluate various applications of information and communications technology cabling installation (ICT). They derive solutions based on applicable codes, standards, and best practices. They will also lead an installation team by employing project management skills.

The technician will be able to use hand tools including test equipment, punch tools, as well as an array of other power tools including saws and hammer drills. This professional will perform various tasks such as pulling, testing and terminating fiber and copper cable. Technicians support cable tray and different other types of cable support hardware.

The BICSI technician must have good knowledge of various types of copper and fiber cables. BICSI Technician address cable termination and testing as a day-to-day process. The professional will perform a site survey while keeping track of blueprints, cut-sheets, and other relevant documentation. They generate both test and as-built reports.

Job Description

The BICSI technicians install and maintain a complex Network Cable Infrastructure. The technician will address client data and cable networks requirements. They investigate every kind of building of automation systems. They must possess demonstrable technical knowledge about the ICT cabling. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Responsibility for vendor-neutral cabling systems, resulting in high-quality infrastructure installations
  • Keeping abreast of the rapid changes in the technology world such as installation techniques and connectivity solutions
  • Adapting installation techniques used by the management to make it easier for the administration
  • Employing industry standards and best practices, resulting in a uniform, durable and high-level system performance.
  • Conducting installation process in compliance with the industry standards
  • Planning and understanding the entire scope of the assigned project
  • Playing an active role to implement the best codes, standards, and practices to harmonize the standards
  • Execution of retrofits and improvisation of existing infrastructure
  • Providing technical assistance with various tasks such as pulling, terminating and testing copper, and fiber cable
  • Assisting in an installment of cable tray and various other types of cable support hardware
  • Flexibility in the use of different hand tools such as punch tools, test equipment, and various power tools like hammer drills and saws
  • Utilization of various types of copper cable, fiber cable, and termination hardware
  • Put to use termination and testing procedures on a daily basis
  • Conduction of site surveys, reading and following blueprints and cut-sheets
  • Collaboration with other teams on the installation of infrastructure-related activities
  • Maintaining client equipment cabling, power, HVAC, telecommunication circuits
  • Ensuring project managers and service vendors remain a part of the project assignments
  • Taking the initiative for remote site activities
  • Serving as the single point of contact for vendors and providers
  • Creating plans and coordinate with tasks such as scheduling, budgeting, and administration
  • Following industry standards in forming, dressing and labeling cables
  • Examination of and the performance of accurate testing of client copper and fiber cabling
  • Certification of the parameters using appropriate test equipment as required
  • Identification and resolution of copper and optical fiber issues
  • Termination and removal of all abandoned cables
